How Should I Feel During a Total Body Detox?
Anyone who tells you that a total body detox comes without any side effects is lying. A good detox diet plan will explain that there will be some initial side effects in the beginning of the body detox diet.
These side effects are your body’s natural reaction to the detox process. It does not mean anything is wrong and, actually, means the detox is working. These side effects are generally short lived and will pass as your body gets into the detox process.
Side effects occur because your body is working in combination with your detox efforts to clean your body. This cleansing is not easy for your body because you probably have years of toxic build up inside your organs and your body. Your body is doing a lot of work to push all the toxins out, so you will naturally have some type of reaction.
Any type of detox, removing of toxins from the body, will cause your body to react. You will generally feel withdrawal symptoms if you are used to having caffeine, alcohol or nicotine on a regular basis since you will not be getting any of these harmful substances during detox.
Common side effects from detox include:
- fatigue
- headache
- itchy skin
- indigestion
- gas
- excess mucus production
- changes in bowel movements
- joint or muscle pain
You may not feel all of these side effects. You may even be able to completely avoid any side effects. Not everyone has side effects because it is largely dependent upon the body detox program that you follow and how well you do following the directions.
Many people detox without a single adverse effect. It all depends on the program you choose and your personal situation. There is no guarantee that you will not feel side effects, but you can minimize them by choosing a good plan and following it closely.

Even if you do feel some side effects, remember that they are just short term. As soon as those harmful toxins start releasing form the body you will feel better. You will actually feel better than you ever have because your body is free from those harmful substances that were polluting it.
